Assistive Technology

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY offered in the Learning Resource Center for students with disabilities and those that are academically at-risk.

Inspiration:

Inspiration Software’s visual thinking tools and learning techniques teaches students how to think, process, organize, and prioritize new information.  It is a graphical way of working with ideas and presenting information.  Students use visual diagrams, concept maps, or webs, to reveal patterns, interrelationships, and interdependencies.  In addition, Inspiration Software assists in stimulating the creative thinking process.

Dragon Naturally Speaking:
Dragon Naturally Speaking is full-featured continuous speech recognition software.  Speak at a normal pace—up to 160 words per minute, and your speech is transcribed immediately, appearing as text on the screen and in a document.  Also, Dragon gives you the option of navigating and controlling your desktop by voice, and listening to documents read aloud, and much more.

Kurzweil 3000:
Kurzweil 3000 is the premier reading, writing and learning software for individuals with dyslexia, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and other learning difficulties.  Kurzweil 3000 allows you to scan any text into the computer.  Next, the software magnifies the text on the monitor and highlights words as they are read aloud by your choice of human-like synthesized voices, making it easier for students to process words and concepts.  Equally important, Kurzweil 3000 provides students with the tools they need to improve their reading speed and comprehension, and offers features that make it possible for them to learn and study independently.
