Nate is in his sixth year at Michigan State previously serving as an Academic Coordinator for Football. Currently he serves as Assistant Director for Multicultural Programming. The Multicultural program empowers student-athletes to learn more about diversity issues. The program also provides multicultural opportunities and services. Courses involving intercollegiate athletics and also race are offered as a component of the program. The major goal of the program is to enhance graduation rates for student-athletes.
He spent two years working at the University of Nebraska. Some of his duties consisted of mentoring, counseling, and working on learning techniques and strategies, as well as helping students pursue their educational goals. Nate also worked extensively in the Life Skills Program and was instrumental in helping Nebraska develop programs such as "I've Got Heart" and Prevent (against relationship violence).
Nate is a native of Harlem, NY. He received his undergraduate degree from Nebraska Wesleyan '99 with a B.S. in History and Secondary Education along with attaining his teaching certification from the state of Nebraska. He received his Master's from the University of Nebraska '00 in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently he is pursuing his Ph.D in Sociology from Michigan State.
He is a 2004 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute. Nate is a member of several national and local organizations involving athletics and student development. One of his passions is improving retention and graduate rates for all students, thus he is active with campus leaders in implementing programs. He also serves as a mentor for children at local schools. Nate played collegiate basketball at Nebraska Wesleyan. He enjoys volunteering his time to the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem and participating in various basketball tournaments. Nate also enjoys spending time with his son, Nate Jr.
