To be considered for the Joey M. Spano, MSU Varsity ‘S’ Club Fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.

The Walter Byers Scholarship Program provides one male and one female student-athlete a $24,000 postgraduate scholarship in recognition of outstanding undergraduate achievement (minimum of 3.5 cumulative grade point average) and potential for success in postgraduate study and their chosen careers. The scholarship may be renewed for a second year.
The Jim McKay Scholarship Program provides for one male and one female student-athlete to receive a $10,000 postgraduate scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement (minimum of 3.5 cumulative grade point average) and potential to make a major contribution in the sports communications or public relations industry.

Each Big Ten institution will annually present two student-athletes (1 male and 1 female) with a one-time postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each. The applicants will be evaluated based primarily on their achievements in academics.
The goal of the enhancement programs is to increase the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics through postgraduate scholarships. The NCAA awards $10,000 each to 13 ethnic minorities and 13 female college graduates who will be entering a graduate program. The applicant must be seeking admission to, or have been accepted into, a sports administration program or a program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administration, coaching, athletic training or a career providing a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.
